Holiday visions revisited: A happier ending for the 1971 Chiefs (Kansas City Star)

It's a tantalizing what-if for Kansas Citians: What if, instead of losing the
longest game in NFL history to Miami in double-overtime 40 years ago Sunday,
the favored Chiefs had beaten the Dolphins and advanced to the AFC
championship game against the Baltimore Colts? We couldn't get that question
out of our heads, so we loaded up the rosters, statistics and box scores of
the 1971 Chiefs and Colts seasons and presented them to a pair of independent
websites -- barcodegames.com and deeproute .com -- that specialize in computer
simulations of NFL games. Experts fed the data into their respective
databases, simulating a Chiefs-Colts showdown for the AFC championship. Based
on that hypothetical outcome (which is detailed on this page), we then did the
same for a Chiefs-Cowboys pairing in Super Bowl VI.
